For Single Trip Coverage, the Cancellation of Journey for any Unforeseen Reason ("CFUR") benefit will not be valid if the Policy Issue Date is less than six (6) days before the Departure Date as shown on your Certificate of Insurance.

General

1. What is the maximum duration of journey for Annual Trip Travel Insurance? How many trips can be covered?

The maximum duration of each journey under Annual Travel Insurance is limited to 90 days, while the number of journeys covered per policy is unlimited within a 12-month period.

2. Is there a difference in coverage between single trip and annual trip travel insurance?

Allianz single trip travel insurance offers three coverage levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Annual travel insurance offers two coverage levels: Silver and Gold and allows for an unlimited number of overseas trips within a 12-month period, with a maximum duration of 90 days for each trip.

4. Can my travel insurance policy be cancelled?

For single trip travel insurance, no refund of premium will be allowed once the policy is issued.

For annual coverage, please refer to the Policy Wording for the refund premium table.

5. What are the requirements for the policyholder/ insured person?

The policyholder must be a HKID holder aged between 18 and 75 years. The insured person must be aged between 60 days and 75 years (inclusive), unless otherwise specified in specific sections of the terms and conditions.

6. What countries are covered under Annual Travel Insurance policy?

Our travel insurance plan aims to cover as many destinations as possible. However, certain countries known for elevated risk or sanctions are excluded:

Excluded countries: Iran, Syria, Cuba, North Korea, Sudan, and Israel. This list is subject to change based on local government regulations.

Coverage

1. Am I covered for ski sport activity? 

Yes, participation in skiing activities provided by recognized local ski resorts in tourist destinations is generally covered, as long as these activities are conducted under the guidance and supervision of qualified instructors.

2. Is Rental Vehicle Excess covered? 

Yes, we will reimburse the insured person up to the sum insured stated in the Schedule of Benefits if they rent or hire a vehicle during their journey that is involved in a collision or is stolen or damaged, provided the rental agreement includes an excess (deductible or similar condition). The insured person must also secure comprehensive motor vehicle insurance from the rental organization to cover loss or damage to the rental vehicle during the rental period.

3. Are Baggage and Personal Effects covered?

We will pay the insured person up to the sum insured specified in the Schedule of Benefits if their baggage and personal effects are stolen, accidentally damaged, or permanently lost during the journey.

4. Is my mobile device (e.g., mobile phone) covered if it is stolen or damaged due to robbery or burglary during the journey?

Allianz Travel Insurance will reimburse the insured person up to the sum insured stated in the Schedule of Benefits if their mobile device is stolen or damaged as a result of robbery or burglary during the journey. Claims will only be considered if the loss is reported to the police within twenty-four (24) hours of the incident, and a police report is obtained at the location of the loss.

5. Are my travel documents covered if they are lost during the journey?

If the insured person loses their travel documents during the journey due to robbery, burglary, or theft, Allianz Travel Insurance will reimburse them up to the sum insured stated in the Schedule of Benefits for the replacement costs of the travel documents. This includes necessary and reasonable travel and accommodation costs. Claims are valid only if the loss is reported to the police within twenty-four (24) hours of the incident. The insured person may claim for either the temporary or permanent version of the same travel document, but not both.

6. Does cancellation of journey coverage extend to air miles?

As part of the loss of travel fare on common carrier, Allianz Travel Insurance will reimburse the value of frequent flyer points, air miles, or loyalty card points lost by the insured person as a result of canceling services paid for with those points, provided the loss is not recoverable from any other source.

7. Am I covered for overseas medical and follow-up medical expenses?

If the insured person sustains an injury or illness during the journey and incurs medical expenses for treatment (at least once) prior to returning to Hong Kong, we will reimburse them up to the sum insured stated in the Schedule of Benefits for those medical expenses.

If the insured person requires follow-up medical treatment for the injury or illness after returning to Hong Kong, we will reimburse them up to the limit stated in the Schedule of Benefits for follow-up medical expenses that:

i) Are incurred within three months of their return to Hong Kong, and
ii) Are deemed usual, reasonable, and medically necessary by a qualified medical practitioner.

8. Are there any exclusions for the policy?

Please review the following list of major exclusions that may help you determine if this policy is right for you (not applicable to Cancel for Any Unforeseen Reason benefit):

  • Any Pre-Existing Condition
  • Pandemics or Epidemics
  • Pregnancy or childbirth, and any Injury or Sickness associated with pregnancy or childbirth
  • Suicide or attempted suicide or intentional self-Injury, or self exposure to needless peril
  • AIDs
  • Expeditions, manual work, missionary or humanitarian travel
  • Extreme Sport or Sport Activities or competing in sporting competitions
  • Mountaineering or Trekking above 3,000 meters
  • Professional Sports
  • Any loss which occurs in connection with the effects of alcohol or drugs
  • Bankruptcy of Common Carrier
  • Any losses incurred in sanctioned countries
  • Any travel to countries which are known to be at elevated risk
  • Any prohibition or regulations by any government;

Cancel for Any Unforeseen Reason

1. What is the Cancel for Any Unforeseen Reason travel insurance benefit?

This benefit prioritizes flexible cancellation terms for travelers, allowing you to cancel your trip for a wide range of unforeseen travel disruptions or unexpected personal circumstances, offering comprehensive coverage for unrecoverable trip deposits due to unforeseen trip cancellations. 
Examples of the unforeseen reason are but not limited to change of plans, schedule conflicts, pet emergencies, unexpected work obligations, visa delays, and event cancellation.

2. How does Cancel for Any Unforeseen Reason protect me?

This coverage protects you from unforeseen cancellation or change of your journey. Allianz Travel Insurance shall reimburse you for the loss of travel fare and/or accommodation expenses paid in advance (less available refunds) up to the sum insured shown on the Schedule of Benefits, subject to a 25% excess. 
The cancelation or change of Journey must be notified to the Common Carrier and/or accommodation provider at least 24 hours prior to the Departure Date. Refer to the Policy Wording for full terms and conditions.

3. When should I purchase travel insurance policy to enjoy Cancel for Any Unforeseen Reason coverage?

We recommend purchasing travel insurance as soon as you book your flights or accommodations to ensure immediate protection. 
For Single Trip cover, this benefit will not be valid if the Policy Issue Date is less than six days before the Departure Date shown on your Certificate of Insurance. 
For example, if your trip departure date is on April 6th, the Issue Date shown on your Allianz travel insurance policy should be on or before April 1st in order to enjoy this benefit. 

4. Is the Cancel for Any Unforeseen Reason coverage included in all Allianz Travel insurance plans?

Currently we offer this coverage in our Gold Plan only. Please be sure to read our Policy Wordings to ensure you choose the Plan that is suitable for you.

5. If an unforeseen event happens leads to my decision to change the travel date instead of cancelling my trip, will I be protected under Cancel for Any Unforeseen Reason coverage? 

If there is a change of travel date, Allianz Travel Insurance shall reimburse you for the change fee, administrative fee, handling fee charged by the Common Carrier and/or accommodation arise from the change of travel date (less available refunds) up to the sum insured shown on the Schedule of Benefit, subject to a 25% excess. 

6. Are there any exclusions under the Cancel for Any Unforeseen Reason benefit?

Yes, the following exclusions shall apply:

• Any event that was known, foreseeable, intended, or expected when your policy was purchased
• Suicide or attempted suicide 
• Criminal act
• Pandemics/epidemics
• Acts committed with the intent to cause loss
• Nuclear risks
• War
• Political risks
• Cyber risk

Examples of Trip Cancellation Coverage

Scenario 1

Within 30 days before the departure of the journey, if the flight is cancelled due to the impact of a natural disaster or severe weather, and the airline company has no available alternative flight arrangement within 24 consecutive hours.

Coverage: You are covered with Cancellation of Journey benefit up to 100% of the sum insured shown on the Schedule of Benefit. Allianz Travel Insurance shall reimburse you for the loss of travel fare and/or accommodation expenses paid in advance (less available refunds).

Scenario 2

You need to cancel your trip due to unforeseen reasons, such as change of plans, schedule conflicts, pet emergencies, unexpected work obligations, visa delays, and event cancellation.

Coverage: You are protected under the benefit of Cancel for Any Unforeseen Reason*. Allianz Travel Insurance shall reimburse you for the loss of travel fare and/or accommodation expenses paid in advance (less available refunds) up to the sum insured shown on the Schedule of Benefit, subject to 25% excess.

Scenario 3

An unforeseen incident disrupted your trip plan and you decide to change your travel date instead of cancelling your trip.

Coverage: You are protected under Cancel for Any Unforeseen Reason*. If there is a change of travel date, Allianz Travel Insurance shall reimburse you for the change fee, administrative fee, handling fee charged by the Common Carrier and/or accommodation arise from the change of travel date (less available refunds) up to the sum insured shown on the Schedule of Benefit, subject to 25% excess.

Scenario 4

At the time of booking your trip, you were undergoing treatment for a serious medical condition. Your medical condition did not improve prior to your Departure Date, forcing you to cancel your travel plans.

Coverage: In this scenario, any losses incurred due to the trip cancellation will not be covered due to exclusions related to Pre-Existing Medical Conditions. Please keep in mind that even under our Cancellation (or Change) of Journey for any Unforeseen Reason, only losses which are not known, foreseeable, or intended will be covered.

Claims

1. Is there a time limit for notifying a travel insurance claim?

Written notice of any loss upon which a claim may be based must be provided to the Company within 30 days of the incident causing the loss. In the case of accidental death, immediate notice must be given.

2. If I feel unwell while traveling abroad but do not consult a doctor until I return to Hong Kong, will I still be covered?

The insured person must consult a doctor during their trip abroad to be eligible for coverage of overseas medical expenses after returning to Hong Kong. If medical attention is not sought during the trip, there will be no coverage for medical expenses upon their return.

Natural Disaster and Serve Weather-related

Before departure:

1. Before the trip start, if the flight is cancelled due to a natural disaster or severe weather, can I apply for trip cancellation?

Within the period of thirty (30) days before the departure of the journey, if the flight is cancelled due to the impact of a natural disaster or severe weather, and the airline company has no available alternative flight arrangement within twenty-four (24) consecutive hours, resulting in the cancellation of the insured journey, you can claim for cancellation benefit.

2. Before the trip start, if the flight is cancelled due to a natural disaster or severe weather and the flight departs later than the scheduled date, is it possible to make a claim?

If your flight is cancelled on the day of departure and is delayed for more than 6 hours, you can claim for travel delay. The compensation amount will be calculated based on the duration of the delay. Subject to actual circumstances and airline arrangements, you can claim for the surcharge of ticket changes or the difference in ticket prices of other airlines of the same type of cabin and non-refundable unused hotel fees.

3. Before the trip start, if the flight is cancelled due to the impact of a natural disaster or severe weather and rescheduled to depart on an earlier date, is it possible to make a claim?

You can claim for the surcharge of ticket changes or the difference in air ticket prices of the same type of cabin, but does not cover the cost of additional hotel bookings.

4. Before the trip departs, if the flight is cancelled due to a natural disaster or severe weather, can I apply for flight delay and trip cancellation at the same time?

No. For delays or cancellations caused by the same reason, you can only choose one type of claim based on the actual situation.

5. If the flight is cancelled due to a natural disaster or severe weather, and part of the itinerary is cancelled with the departure being later than the original date, will the other protection benefits in the policy be postponed? Can a new policy be purchased for the excess? (e.g. the original trip period is from 1 Sep to 10 Sep, the revised trip period is from 3 Sep to 12 Sep)

You can purchase another policy covering the additional date(s) (e.g. 11 to 12 Sep).

 

Return to Hong Kong

6. If the return flight to Hong Kong is cancelled, can I claim compensation for the flight delay?

If the return flight is cancelled, causing a delay in returning to Hong Kong, you can apply for a travel delay claim. The compensation amount will be calculated based on the duration of the delay.

7. My return flight to Hong Kong is cancelled. Can I claim compensation for apply for an itinerary change?

If the return flight is cancelled, resulting in a delay in returning to Hong Kong and incurring additional reasonable and necessary transportation or accommodation expenses, you can apply for compensation for a change of itinerary. For delays or changes caused by the same reason, you can only choose one of the two compensations.

“Journey Re-Route” means in the event that a Journey has to be re - routed because of an unanticipated occurrence during the Period of Insurance of Natural Disaster or Severe Weather at the scheduled destination, which prevents the Insured Person from continuing his/her scheduled Journey, the Company will reimburse the reasonable and necessary additional travel fare and/ or accommodation incurred by an Insured Person to enable him or her to arrive at their scheduled destination, up to the Sum Insured stated in the Schedule of Benefits.

8. If the itinerary changes due to force majeure, will other protection benefits in the policy be postponed?

Yes. It can be extended for up to ten (10) consecutive days for free.
